Our Story

https://pixabay.com/en/giraffes-south-africa-safari-africa-382399/Twiga Tutors is a fun, creative, online tutoring company aimed at offering personalized learning to globally mobile, K-12 kids. We are an EFM-powered business specializing in the academic needs of American Foreign Service and Military children who move around the world.

Our story starts in Africa, with a small group of American parents who wanted to support their children’s education needs while living overseas.  As globally mobile expats, their kids attended schools with varying curricula and missed out on fun American programs like U.S. History and American Literature. Some students had critical gaps in their Math and English skills from frequent moves or abrupt evacuations. Parents of Gifted or Special Needs students found that their overseas school could not accommodate their child’s specific learning needs. Other students just needed a little extra support repatriating to the U.S. school system after being abroad for a decade or more.

We created Twiga Tutors to help! We view ourselves as partners with students, parents and teachers. As EFMs we understand firsthand the academic challenges that come with frequently changing countries, schools, hemispheres and curricula. Our customers say our greatest strength lies in our certified American teachers who are experienced, inspiring and based in different timezones worldwide. Whether tutoring in Math, English or Science or learning about U.S. History and American Literature, our teachers design personalized programs based on each child’s individual skill level and learning interests. All our students work 1:1 with their teacher to complete U.S. Education Standards from anywhere in the world.

Our goal is to become a recognized name for the American Foreign Service and Military community, capitalizing on the sustained interest for American educational resources, teaching approaches and support overseas. We hope for profitability in our first two years while working flexibly and having fun. What’s with the giraffes?  Twiga means giraffe in Swahili and connects us with the continent where our company began. The giraffes also symbolize our commitment to bringing an amazing education to kids anywhere, even those living in the most exotic places on earth.

Have your kids join in on the learning fun!  Check out our programs here.
