DoS and DoD Reimbursement Information

Department of State Families: Supplementary Instruction can be reimbursed for academic subjects generally offered by public schools in the U.S. but that are not offered by the child’s school at post. Supplementary Instruction reimbursement can also apply for students who are struggling with academic subjects or who are eligible for a Gifted and Talented, or equivalent program.  For any questions, check with your FMO at post. Sample Letters

1. US History and Civics – Parent to FMO Letter

To Whom It May Concern:

As per DSSR 276.9 Supplementary Instruction Allowance, I am seeking reimbursement for my child’s supplemental US History and Civics course. The online course includes US History, US Government, US Economics, and US Geography.

I’ve included a copy of the sales receipt for your review.

2. Additional Instruction – Parent to FMO Letter

To Whom It May Concern:

As per DSSR 276.9 Supplementary Instruction Allowance, I am seeking reimbursement for my child’s additional instruction to (Choose: enter a grade, remain in the same grade, or complete a grade in the school; or successfully complete an academic course in order to progress to the next level in the sequence of courses).

I’ve included a letter from the school and a copy of the additional instruction sales receipt for your review.

4. Gifted and Talented – Parent to FMO Letter

I’ve included a letter from the school and/or standardized Gifted and Talented test results. I’ve also included a copy of the supplemental Gifted and Talented instruction sales receipt for your review.
